Light is characterized as an extremely knowledgeable and intelligent, yet bored young man, confident in his own sense of logic and how creative he is in regards to others.
He is frustrated by the lack of justice in the world and how monotonously boring it is. Believing the world to be "rotten," he uses his Death Note as a means by which he can enact his will to purge the world of all evil. Light Yagami's goal in his life is to erase all evil in the world by killing criminals until the world is populated by people that he's judged to be honest, kind, and hardworking. He desires to become the "god" of his new world.
